Hashtag

We would truly appreciate you using

When we first started dating, we were trying out multiple terms of endearment for each other. We used the terms “Sayang“ and “Boo“ a lot, until it fused naturally and became our favourite.

She is a girl of the purest soul, and I fell in love with her instantly.

How We Met

How we met each other

15 . 07 . 2018
Two swipes made a match, and we found each other.

Our First Date

First date at the temple

19 . 07 . 2018
Instead of a traditional date setting such as a restaurant, I (Dave) asked Omana out to a temple. Half my friends asked if I was of sound mind, and the other half deemed it a smart move. As it turned out, she was intrigued by the setting, and we had our first of many dates.

The Proposal

15 . 10 . 2021
As soon as the nationwide lockdown was lifted, I set in motion my plan to propose in the air. I had a speech memorized, arguably full of clichés. As plans go, I forgot everything and blurbed out words from the heart. My knees were cold and my voice was shaking. Lucky for me she said yes!

Our Registration

Our registration

18 . 02 . 2022
We registered in advance, well before the date of our wedding due to certain restrictions and limitations put in place by the goverment in response to the pandemic. Now, it's full steam ahead to the wedding!

Ponnurukku (Melting of Gold Ceremony)

Ponnurukku - or melting of gold is a ceremony that takes place a few days before the wedding, and is conducted by the groom's side only. The bride's family and relatives will be present, but the bride is not allowed to attend.

The goldsmith (Pather) comes to melt a gold coin, which will then be used to create the bridal pendant (thali) for the wedding. Once the melted gold has cooled, the groom will present it to everyone present and ask for their blessing. The goldsmith will then take the gold back to his shop and shape it into the bridal pendant.

After the blessing, the bride and groom's families will plant trees (Kalyana Murunggai) to bless the marriage. The tree has heart shaped leaves, and thorns, which symbolise that both the bride and groom are taken and cannot be snatched by anyone else. The trees must be planted at the same time by both families.

Lunch concludes the ceremony and both the bride and groom must be vegetarian, not allowed to leave home, and not drink alcohol, until the day of the wedding. By doing this, the bride and groom embody Sivan and Parvati (gods of the Hindu religion) and their love for one another.
